Me and my dad
About the Book
My dad was my hero, a craftsman in every sense of the word. He had lived a full life, but through Christ, he discovered what true life really was.
After he passed away, I noticed his worn copy of Machinery’s Handbook sitting on his desk. It struck me how much it resembled my papaw’s well-worn Bible. One book held the working knowledge of a machinist; the other held the living Word of God.
I began thinking about everything my dad had taught me: in the shop, in life, and through the way Christ changed him. Then I considered the goodness and grace of my Heavenly Father and the changes He has made in me.
I couldn’t help but bring those worlds together: the lessons of the machine shop, the wisdom passed down from father to son, and the truth of God’s Word, all seen through the eyes of a machinist.

Dial It In
Some of the most meaningful lessons I learned at Bailey’s Machine & Repair came through stories. Some grew out of humor, some out of sadness, and others from everything in between. When those moments are paired with God’s Word, even an ordinary day in the shop can reveal something eternal. When we seek Him with our whole heart, He promises that we will find Him.
A machine shop is full of useful knowledge. I wanted to share a few practical tips that can help whether or not you have ever stood at a lathe or mill. These are lessons I still use every day, and I hope you will find a place for them in your own work and life.
These sections appear after every major section of the book. They are not intended to be extended studies. They are places to slow down, consider what you have read, and allow God’s Word to speak through the lesson. My hope is that His truth shines through far more brightly than anything I have written.
